Rabies Alert Issued for Four Sub-districts in Nakhon Ratchasima

The Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Public Health Office has issued an urgent health warning following the confirmation of a rabies case in a brown dog. Laboratory tests conducted by the Lower Northeastern Veterinary Research and Development Center in Surin confirmed the animal was infected with the rabies virus.

Authorities are specifically seeking individuals who may have been bitten, scratched, or exposed to the saliva of this dog between July 20 and 30. The areas of concern include the Pho Tia sluice gate in Pru Yai sub-district, as well as community roads connecting the sub-districts of Phon Krang, Phutsa, and Si Mum in Mueang district.

Rabies is a fatal viral disease for which there is no known cure once symptoms appear. Dr. Wichan Kidhen, head of the provincial health office, emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that the virus poses a life-threatening risk to anyone exposed. Residents or travelers who visited these specific locations during the stated timeframe and had any physical contact with a brown dog are strongly advised to report to local health facilities immediately for vaccination and medical assessment. While the source of the infection has been identified, health officials continue to monitor the situation across the province's 32 districts to prevent further transmission.
