According to Prachachat Business, Chiang Mai is accelerating efforts to upgrade the landscape and surroundings of its ancient temples as part of its bid for UNESCO World Heritage status. Local authorities report that preparations at these historic sites have reached approximately 95% completion.

Suparerk Phawilai, President of the Chiang Mai City Council, and the working committee are currently coordinating with the media to ensure strict adherence to ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) guidelines. These preparations are critical ahead of the official on-site evaluation scheduled to take place between August 3 and August 8, 2026.
