Concerns Raised Over Stalled Investigation into Local Government Exam Fraud

On July 31, 2026, Phakamon Nun-anan, a list MP for the People's Party and chair of the House Committee on Political Development, Mass Communications, and Public Participation, expressed frustration regarding the ongoing investigation into a massive local government exam fraud scandal. According to Khaosod Online, more than 40 days have passed since authorities raided a facility in Nonthaburi, yet the investigation into the alleged 5-billion-baht corruption scheme remains stagnant.

Phakamon highlighted that despite public reports of impending summons or arrest warrants, there has been no significant movement toward tracing financial transactions. She suggested that the irregularities may have originated during the drafting of the Terms of Reference (TOR). Specifically, she noted that Burapha University had initially won the bid to organize the exams, but their contract was canceled in early 2025. The TOR was subsequently revised, leading to Srinakharinwirot University being selected as the new organizer.
