Thailand Maintains Electricity Rates at 3.95 Baht Through Year-End

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) of Thailand has announced that electricity rates will remain fixed at 3.95 baht per unit for the billing period of September through December 2026.

To maintain this rate, the ERC is utilizing 16.127 billion baht from its 'Claw Back' fund. This financial intervention allows for a reduction of 25.04 satang per unit in the Fuel Adjustment Tariff (Ft), effectively offsetting potential price increases for consumers.

For residents and long-term visitors, this decision provides short-term stability in utility costs, which are a significant component of monthly living expenses in Thailand. By preventing a price hike during the final quarter of the year, the government aims to mitigate inflationary pressure on households and businesses alike.

While this measure secures current pricing, the ERC has acknowledged the broader necessity of structural energy reform. The report highlights that the commission is facing pressure to move beyond temporary subsidies and address the underlying systemic issues within the national power structure.
