Thailand Completes Agricultural Database for 75,000 Villages

According to Khaosod Online, the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) has successfully completed a nationwide agricultural database project covering 75,000 villages. OAE Secretary-General Peerapan Kor-thong stated that the initiative aims to provide accurate, real-time information regarding crop types, livestock, and aquaculture to better inform national agricultural planning and production strategies.

To achieve this, the OAE collaborated with the Department of Agricultural Extension (DOAE) to deploy Village Agricultural Volunteers (อกม.). These volunteers, who possess localized knowledge of their communities, conducted field surveys in the remaining 18,000 villages using a digital recording system known as 'Frame-asa.' This project is part of the 2026 fiscal year effort to enhance agricultural information management and big data utilization.

For residents and those involved in Thailand’s agricultural sector, this development is significant as it provides a more precise framework for future agricultural policies and resource allocation. By reflecting the actual production conditions of each village, the database is intended to improve the efficiency of future surveys and economic analysis. While the database for the 75,000 villages is now established, the long-term impact on local market prices and specific agricultural support programs remains to be confirmed as the government begins to integrate this data into its broader economic planning.
