New Checked Baggage Security Protocols to Begin October 16

According to Khaosod Online, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced that new security measures for checked baggage will officially take effect on October 16, 2026. These regulations, which were initially published in February 2026, are designed to align Thailand’s aviation security standards with international practices.

For travelers and residents, it is important to note that these inspections will not be routine for every passenger. Instead, authorities will only open checked luggage if X-ray screening detects suspicious items or objects that could pose a threat to aviation safety. To ensure transparency and accountability, the CAAT has mandated that any such inspections must occur in designated areas, be recorded on video, and include the storage of evidence for future review. Passengers will be notified if their luggage is subject to such an inspection.

The implementation date was set for October to allow airports, airlines, and relevant agencies sufficient time to prepare their personnel, systems, and communication strategies. While the policy aims to improve safety and efficiency, travelers should remain aware that their checked items may be subject to these specific, evidence-backed security checks.
